Excel Academy Charter School

MISSION Excel Academy Charter School will prepare 6th through 8th grade students to succeed in high school and college, apply their learning to solve relevant problems, and engage productively in their communities. DESCRIPTION Excel Academy Charter School is a new, public, charter, middle school that serves the communities of Boston and Chelsea. We opened our doors in September of 2003 with 100 6th graders. Each year, we will add one grade and will serve 6th, 7th and 8th grade students by 2005. As a public charter school, Excel Academy is tuition-free and open to all students. IMPACT Excel Academy students will become: Accomplished scholars who can (a) read fluently, (b) write effectively, (c) perform calculations accurately, and (d) ask thoughtful questions; research, analyze and synthesize information; and draw insightful conclusions. Capable practitioners who can (a) apply learning from standard academic curriculum to complex, authentic issues, (b) find personal relevance in their coursework, and (c) make connections among academic disciplines. Engaged citizens who (a) possess deep knowledge about and connection to their community, (b) offer concrete contributions in group settings and (c) present effectively to audiences using oral, visual, and written modes.
