| BOOYAH!: Global Youth Service Day: Prison Book Program |
Agency: Prison Book Program
Description:
Global Youth Service Day is an annual celebration of youth from over 120 different countries who are volunteering in their communities. By participating in this project, you will be joining millions of youth everywhere for the world’s largest annual day of youth service!
Prison Book is a volunteer-run group committed to providing reading materials for prisoners around the country. The volunteer process involves reading letters from prisoners and responding to them by choosing an appropriate book from the on site library. After that phase, volunteers are needed to package the books and address them to individual prisoners. Then groups come in to verify everything is correct to make sure the books will reach the right person. The Prison Book program provides information about the prison system and individuals access to education while incarcerated.
