BOOYAH!: Global Youth Service Day: Trustees in Waltham

Agency: The Trustees of Reservations

Description: Global Youth Service Day is an annual celebration of youth from over 120 different countries who are volunteering in their communities. By participating in this project, you will be joining millions of youth everywhere for the world’s largest annual day of youth service!

Every year, the Earth Day Charles River Cleanup is organized by a collaborative of groups interested in environmental and river issues and led by the Charles River Watershed Association. This is a great opportunity to get outdoors at the start of spring. The event happens yearly to clean up the Charles River after winter. The river has improved tremendously over the past few years and received a B rating due to the dedications of volunteers like you!

BOOYAH! volunteers will take part in The Trustee’s section of the river. The primary task of the day will include picking up trash along the riverbank. The Esplanade will provide all supplies needed for the day. If you have your own gloves, feel free to bring them. NOTE: Because volunteers will be picking up trash, volunteers MUST BE CAREFUL and always wear gloves. If young children are participating, they must be supervised and warned to be cautious when picking up objects.

Kid Friendly, 5+. All volunteers under 14 years old must be accompanied by an adult over 18 years old. Please notify the Project Leader of the names and ages of ALL youth you are bringing to the project.

This project is reserved for youth and family volunteers (Boston Cares members or pending members) and is offered through BOOYAH! Youth and Family program. PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS PROJECT IF YOU ARE NOT A YOUTH OR AN ADULT INTENDING TO VOLUNTEER WITH A CHILD.

All volunteers under 18 years old must bring a Permission Form signed by a parent or guardian to give to the Project Leader. Please email or call Nikki Fountas with any questions: nfountas@bostoncares.org, 617-422-0910 x 206.
