Corporate
Volunteering
Boston Cares consults with private corporations of
all sizes to engage employees in volunteer community
service. These programs introduce employees to
community service while generating revenues for
Boston Cares programs, helping to offset both
program and administrative costs. Our signature
programs include:
- Hands At Work, a program through
which Boston Cares develops and leads community
service opportunities for companies throughout the
year.
- Corporate Volunteer Day, our annual
day of service with Greater Boston companies, and
Boston Cares’ most visible event. Over 190 companies
have participated since the event was launched in
1997 by General Colin Powell.

Citizen Academy
Launched in 2003 with support from the Boston Globe
Foundation, our Citizen Academy initiative is
helping people make the shift from casual volunteers
to intentional citizens, which is critical in a city
and region intent on bridging communities. Boston
Cares volunteers are increasingly asking for tools
and support to remain engaged and to go deeper. In
response to this interest, Citizen Academy programs
offer a continuum of opportunities to encourage
civic engagement through service learning projects,
educational programs, skill-building workshops,
panel discussions, book clubs and community-wide
special events. To learn more about Citizen Academy,
